Audacity is a multi-track audio editor and recorder for Windows, macOS, GNU/Linux, and other operating systems that is free, open source, and cross-platform.
As an open source project, it was created by a group of volunteers.
SourceForge is no longera audacity.
The audacity may be obtained through Audacity Team's website instead: http://www.audacityteam.org/download/audacity is a Windows, Mac OS X, GNU/Linux and other operating systems free, simple to use, multitrack audio editing and recording device.
Audacity is free software created and released under the GNU General Public License by a group of volunteers (GPL). Open source software, since its source code is accessible for everyone to study or use, is also termed Audacity programmes. Tens of other free and open source programmes are available, such the Firefox web browser, LibreOffice or Apache OpenOffice office suites and whole Linux-based operating systems such as the Ubuntu Features Live Audio Record Playback Commuter for any Windows Vista or later computer.
Audacity may be used to record and mix whole albums, as as by Tune-Yards.[16] It is presently used in the UK OCR National Level 2 ICT course for the sound production subject.
Audacity's capabilities include recording and playing back sounds[17], scrubbing (version 2.1.1 and later)[18], and timer recording[19].
Editing through cut, copy, and paste, with unlimited levels of undo[21] Modern multitrack audio software features include navigation controls, zoom and single track edit, project pane and XY project navigation, non-destructive and destructive effect processing (from version 2.1.0 onwards). Multitrack mixing[35] Support for multi-channel modes with sampling rates up to 96 kHz and 32 bits per sample[36] Audio spectrum analysis using the Fourier transform algorithm[37][38] Import and export of WAV, AIFF, MP3 (via ) Versions 1.3.2 and later supported FLAC.[39] Versions 1.3.6 and later supported WMA, AAC, AMR, and AC3 through the optional FFmpeg library.[40] Mod-script-pipe for controlling Audacity from Python is now included with Audacity and may be activated via options.
A complete user manual for Windows and Mac[41] (or available to download or use online without downloading).
Most programme dialogues and error messages include a "?" help button that takes the user to the appropriate documentation page.
[42] Four user-selectable colorways for waveform display in audio tracks (version 2.2.1 and later)[43] Audacity supports the LV2 open standard for plugins and can therefore load software like Calf Studio Gear. Due to user feedback, the firm decided to utilise error reporting and update checking instead.[46][47][48][49] Limitations Audacity does not support instrument VST (VSTi) plugins.
The graphical user interface of the Audacity software programme is translated into Afrikaans, Arabic, Basque, Bulgarian, Catalan, Chinese (simplified), Chinese (traditional), Corsican, Cze
The graphic depicts the layers and modules in Audacity. wxWidgets contains three major classes, each of which is reflected in Audacity. Higher abstractions arise from lesser abstractions.
For example, the BlockFile system is based on wxFiles from wxWidgets. Both wxWidgets and PortAudio are OS abstraction layers. Both include conditional code that selects various implementations based on target platform.
The free and open nature of Audacity has made it very popular in education, encouraging its developers to make the user interface easier for students and teachers. Many users of the programme believed the creators had violated their trust and turned the product into spyware. On July 6, Muse Group head of strategy Daniel Ray responded to the controversy with a discussion post on Audacity's repository site on GitHub, addressing the privacy concerns.
The Muse Group updated their privacy policy on July 22 for Audacity 3.0.3.[66] Only crash/error reporting and update checking data are gathered, and these are anonymized. Both are user-controlled options. Muse Group also deleted the proposed clause that prohibited minors under 13 from using Audacity.
